Literacy

Today is International Literacy Day.  "Whether it’s reading or writing, literacy is an outlet to an untouchable world – your imagination. Not only is literacy a basic human right, it is a fundamental building block for learning as well as a personal empowerment tool. It is the catalyst for social and global progress."--internationalliteracyday.org.

If you can read this then you already have an amazing tool that can take you wherever you want to go!  Imagine a world in which you could not read?  What would life be like?  How would you communicate?  This is something we take for granted daily and many people don't realize just how blessed they truly are to be able to read.

How has literacy (reading or writing) impacted your life?  Have you had a book leave a lasting impression on you?  Have you written a paper/poem/letter/text that you were proud of?  Reflect in 5-7 sentences.

  1. Reading and Writing has impacted my life by letting my imagination go wild. I have had many books leave a lasting impression on me. I have wrote a lot of poems that i am proud of. If I lived in a world with no books I would be mad and i wouldn't want to talk to any one. If we couldn't wright then what is the point of going to school.

  2. LIteracy means alot to me, with out reading I would be bored. Reading makes me feeling like everything disappears and I can just relax. I have lots of books leave impressions on me. I love to write poems, I have two of my poems in books. The funny thing about me and reading is that I never get rid of the books because I love to read over and over. I got four big blue tots at home filled with just books. They kind of take up a corner of my mothers room.

  3. If no one could read then it would make everything more difficult. Communication would be impossible, unless by word of mouth, how would you communicate with anyone? I read books a lot actually, I enjoy reading, but no book I read changed me, maybe the way I think a little bit. The articles I wrote for FFA are the most proud of anything have ever written, probably because it wasn't a required thing for me to do, I did it because I wanted to.

  4. Without reading and writing there would be no school. One of the main reasons there is a school is because a woman wanted to teach kids to read and write, mathematics, and social studies. Also there would be no texting, no video games, and even Television would be completely different. But luckily we have a language in which we can read, write, and speak correctly.

Literacy has impacted my life because it has help me be able to communicate with people like texting my family in Massachusetts that I cant just drive over and see every day. Also literacy helps getting me where I need to be by reading signs or having to read directions or anything. Literacy also has impacted me when my friends need me for a rough time in their life I can text them something meaningful to help them out and make them feel better.

Literacy has made a big impression on my life. When I was younger, I didn't really like to read. I would always get bored or didn't have the patience to sit down and start reading. Now, I really like to read. I don't get to read as much as I want or as much a I should, but I really appreciate reading more than I did when I was younger. Reading can take you to a whole nother world or if you just need a little escape. I also like to read poems. If I'm sad reading poems or quotes make me feel a little better. Literacy is more than just reading, it's also writing. Writing is also a big part of our lives. Every one should know how to write because it's part of everyday life. Writing can help when you don't know how to say what you feel. Writing down your feelings can make you feel better when you don't have someone to talk to or don't really want to talk to anyone. Without Literacy, our world would be very boring an depressing.

I honestly can't remember a time when I wasn't able to read. So to think about having an entire world of not being able to read. I just think it would be crazy to think about. Technology never would have advanced the way it has. It would be entirely different and I can't even imagine it. I use literacy in my everyday life 24/7 it is quite literally one of the most important things in my life. I couldn't imagine a day without it. With our world being so media based we need that way to communicate through technology .I also love to read, it really does open up new worlds to unimaginable things.

Literacy impacted my life by being able to communicate with my family and friends. Being able to send a text to family and keep in touch with them. Also, being able to write down how you are feeling makes you feel better sometimes. Reading a good book allows you to forget about your problems. Literacy impacts my life in a good way.

Without reading, writing, and etc, there would be no technology. No computers, cell phones, televisions, there wouldn't be anything. We wouldn't even need technology, such as a pencil. There wouldn't be a point in having school because we wouldn't have anything to do. In my opinion, this world would become much more dumber. I complain about having to read and write, but I am thankful for knowing how to read. If I was in a serious situation and needed to know how to do something, without anyone around to help me, I wouldn't know how to because we wouldn't have instructions on how to help me or do it. I say I hate reading and writing but wouldn't want to live without it.

Literacy has a impact on our lives as in if we didn't have literacy we wouldn't be able to do homework like this for example. Also we wouldn't be able to learn new things. We also would end up repeating what happened in history. Or we also wouldn't get any smarter at anything and wouldn't have the lives we have now. The government wouldn't be the government anymore and everything would fall apart as we know it now. The world would eventually find a way to have communication.

Literacy has a impact on our lives more than you think. If we couldnt read or write the economy would fall apart and be hard to recover. We also wouldn't get any smarter at anything and wouldn't have the lives we have now. Also no computers, cell phones, televisions, there wouldn't be anything. So that is my look on this. What would the world be like if we had no literacy.

Literacy has an impact on me, mostly in the social world. People use many different types of vernacular and even in just the english language, its fun to use new expressions and forms of speech to help get my point across. I believe more in that, we use language for everything, to express feelings, emotions, physical attributed and so on. Since we put language and writing into everything, its get that we are so experienced in using it. Communication will always be important, and even in the changing world, english or whatever language we invent next, will be most essential.

Literacy has impacted my life in many ways. Reading is very important because Writing is everywhere so we have to be able to read everything. Writing is also important because not only do we use it to write our name and do our homework but it also allowed us to write documents and record events which allows us to keep track of history. Writing also allows us to make books to teach people.

If all of us were illiterate then we we have no way to do homework or read letters or anything. We would not be able to text people or anything. I have read some books recently like the first three Harry Potter books. It is kind of nice to be able to sit down and read a book sometimes. Literacy has impacted my life even though I don't like to read all the time anymore.

I read a book about the life of John F. Kennedy and it is my most favorite book ever. I usually don't read very much but this book really caught my attention. Literacy is very important in people's lives. Some people love to read, but I just haven't ever had a niche for reading. This book has drawn me too like reading. Literacy is a way of entertainment and a way to just get away from the outside world.

Literacy has an impact on our lives as in we can talk, write, and read. Literacy has helped us evolve and communicate with each other. With literacy it gave us the ability to be able to keep records and write down events, such as the first writing was hieroglyphics. If we didn't have literacy we wouldn't under stand each other, we're not just gonna grunt at each other and expect them to know what we're trying to say. Everything that we have today wouldnt be what it is. Literacy is a very important part of development. (:

Literacy has impacted my life because it has allowed me to write this blog and hopefully get a good grade on it. It has also allowed me to develop my...how to I guess just b.s. my way through things like this without really doing what I have to like read or research for a paper. It has allowed my slacking to greatly increase and be a better writer because of it.

Having the ability to read and write is a great advantage I think many people don't really think about using. Everyday we use writing and reading, it's just a custom to day to day living whether it's a text message to a homework assignment. Having a world without being able to communicate to each other would be really hard, I don't know how people could easily communicate before a set language. I love reading, I'm so glad that we have a written language that is easy to understand so we can learn about the other stories or adventures someone else has gone through. I can't say I've actually had a book or article change my life but I am quiet fond of poetry, I've wrote a little that I would of been proud of but nothing more than a hobby.

Without anyway to do homework no one would be educated and the world wouldn't have evolved into the way it is now. I've only read one book, "Dear John" and that book put me in tears because it was so good. It taught me a few things that I'll always remember and live by and I usually don't like to read. I usually never read books but I read that entire book I couldn't believe I actually finished it.

Literacy has a impact on everyone. If we didn't have it we wouldn't be able to learn, communicate, etc. Our world wouldn't be as far as advanced as we are if we didn't have it. For example they wouldn't have any laws if we didn't have a way to write, well people could change the laws if they weren't written down. Those are some of the ways literacy has affected us.

Literacy is important to our lives because it allows us to communicate information with other people, without literacy we wouldn't be able to coordinate with with others because we wouldn't have anyway to communicate with them. If we didn't have literacy we wouldn't be able to learn about other civilizations and other cultures. Without literacy we wouldn't be able to send letters or emails to people all over the would so noone would know what was going on in other parts of the world.

Literacy has impacted everyone. This allows us or showed us how to communicate.Literacy helps us earn about other things. This is how we communicate with others near and far away from us, it helps us understand. I have not personally wrote anything but some others have written things that are inspiring or helpful. Many books have left an impression on me because that's also a way that we learn. That is how literacy has a impacted some people.

Literacy is important to be because it helps me to read amazing stories as well as helping me write stories that would one day be amazing. Thanks to those cave men, we can read and write tons of things. without it we would be throwing rocks at each other. Writing is Imagination in the ink/Led that should be read to.
Writing is the Key to imagination.

Literacy, to be able to read and write. When you think about it, it's amazing how often we use it and don't realize. When we send a text, write a love letter, look at the menu at subway, even as you read this blog your using literacy, we use it all the time. To me literacy is kind of like money, the world revolves around it, without literacy (or money) the world wouldn't be able to function? How would we communicate? How would we write a simple "I love you" to a loved one? How would we know what to order when we walk into a restauraunt? How would the world work. I think literacy is very important to each and every one of us, we all use it in our daily lives, and without it, how would the world go round? Literacy allows for us all to communicate and explore other worlds through others imaginations (books). To me literacy is like a whole other world all on it's own.

Literacy is important to our lives because it allows us to use proper communication skills when consulting with one another if you don't have good literacy/communication it would be very embarrassing to go out in public and speak. We wouldn't be able to communicate normally or even know what normal communication is. Without it letters and texts and snapchats and stuff like that wouldn't exist.

Yes, I do have a book that impacts my life everyday. I guess it's technically 66 books...The Bible impacts my life every second of the day. It is a way for me to live my life the right way. It has lead me to being in the FCA group in school, part of the First Baptist Church Youth Group in Stover, as well as attending several other churches in Missouri. It is definitely the most impactful book that I have ever read.

Literacy is probably one of the most important things any person can have. You use it hundreds of times a day, whether it's talking to friends, texting, or even writing a class blog. I have never have a book i read personally touch me, but that's because i don't read that may books. I have wrote a couple papers in English class that i thought were pretty good, my favorite being about the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube man. Without literacy we would not to be able to communicate with friends, give instructions, or send a simple text message. So why it's something most people don't think of everyday, it is very important.

The thought of not having literacy in our everyday life is boring and no fun. Literacy and writing plays a huge role in our world today. Laws are written, the Bible, news articles and books. Each of these writings and laws are needed. They help shape our lives in a good way, maybe even sometimes a bad way. Reading a book can really be good for you. Not only does it improve reading and writing skills, but it also might make you have a more open mind. It might make you realize some things you had never realized before. Literacy also helps you express yourself, to better you. I've read a book that had a lasting impression on me before. For example, I sometimes refer to a character, like "what would she do" if she was a good person and had good advice. Therefore, literacy plays a big part in everyday life.

Reading allows us to communicate in a whole new way. With reading, you can communicate ideas and opinions without having to verbally say anything. Writing allows us to have a physical copy of our thoughts which we can keep or share with others. If you keep a diary for example, you are able to go back to a certain time in your life and read exactly what you were thinking/feeling at that time. Reading has greatly affected by life because I have learned so much just by reading about different things on the internet rather than having to listen to lectures or physically see how things work. To sum it up, reading and writing allows us to do and learn things we never thought possible.

Literacy is important to me, as it is what allows for books that provide outlets from the real world. Growing up in elementary, I didn't have very many friends. So most of my time after school was spent playing video games, or reading books. I remember one book series that I loved reading as a kid was called "A to Z Mysteries". There was a book for every letter in the alphabet, but the school library only had a few. So after I had read all of those, I had my mom order me the entire series so I could keep reading. Without literacy, and the ability to communicate thoughts and ideas to other people, stories like this would never be able to invigorate, and inspire kids and adults alike.

Literacy is important because it is how we communicate with people we can not see in person. Without literacy life would be very different. We would not have a way to tell our stories. We would have to travel to communicate. I read the book Divergent a few while ago and it had a lasting impression on me because it was the saddest book I ever read, and I have not read a book since.

Literacy has impacted my life in so many ways, where do I begin. My life would just be so terrible without being able to read. I love books, I love writing songs and poetry, I love texting (haha duh), without literacy life as we know it wouldn't be the same, education would be impossible if we didn't know how to read, or write. There would be no solid way to teach anything. How would people pass time on an airplane, or do when they can't sleep at night. They read a book right? Well, without literacy, that would be impossible. I'm happy to say that without literacy, my life and many other people's lives just wouldn't be the same.

Literacy is definitely one of the most important parts of my life. My absolute favorite hobby is reading. Some books that I have read have greatly changed who I am as a person: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. I've learned lessons of courage, friendship, and hope that not only live in my heart, but also help me in my daily life. But there is one book that is more important than all others: The Bible. Through this we learn not only how to live a good life, but how to receive eternal life. All in all, literacy is probably the most important thing in the world. It allows us to communicate with one another, hear cherished stories, and learn all that we need to know.

  44. Reading and writing was something that I never used to enjoy. Then I started finding books that I enjoyed reading and was interested in, and now i read regularly. There aren't any books that have left a lasting impression though. Speeches and essays were another thing that i never used to enjoy. Then I started FFA and writing speeches is now a regular thing for me. Although most of them are horrible because I wait till the last minute to write it. For example i have a speech to write by thursday and haven't even started yet. Wish me luck!
