2015: Year in Review

Congratulations, you made it through another year!!  I hope that 2015 lived up to your expectations and that you accomplished everything you set out to do.  For your final blog of the year, please make a year in review about your life.  Think waaaaay back to January and post your top 5 events of the year.  Include a sentence about each and it can be in list form.  Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break and can't wait to see you in 2016!!

Be persuasive

Hope you all had a much needed, relaxing Thanksgiving break.  I had a great mix of lounging, shopping, playing, and cleaning during my time off.  

This week I want to see how persuasive you can be.  Since today is Cyber Monday, parents all over the world will be online shopping for their sweet children.  In 4-5 sentences beg, plead, and persuade your parents to buy you what you really want for Christmas.  Let's see who can turn it on the best!

A time to be thankful

Tis the season to give thanks and count your blessings.  I don't know about you, but all of the recent tragedies around the world have really made me stop and appreciate all that I have.  Sure we all have our own struggles, but you are blessed beyond imagination in the grand scheme of things.  

Please post about what you're thankful for OR what you're looking forward to most this holiday season.

In honor

In honor of Veteran's Day this Wednesday, I want you to take a few minutes and reflect on why this day is important.  Do you know anyone that has served or is currently serving in the armed forces?  Even if you don't, you have to appreciate all of those that have put their life on the line for our freedom.  Express your thanks, concern, appreciation to the heroes that serve to protect our country.

Red Ribbon Week

Happy Red Ribbon Week!  I don't know about you, but I love a good themed dress up week.  I think it's great when everyone can come together to celebrate and bring awareness to good causes (and it promotes school spirit).  If you were in charge of selecting the theme for each day, what would you choose?  List the days of the week and select a fun category for each.  Be sure to explain why you'd like to dress this way for each day.  Have fun with this and hope to see you all participating this week!!

*FYI:  My character costume for Thursday is going to be epic!

Free write

It was requested last week (and my brain isn't cooperating this morning), you can have a free write to blog this week.  Since I'm not limiting your creativity with a topic, I expect these to go above and beyond a normal post.  Feel free to make me laugh, cry, or you can just vent about anything on your mind.  Happy Monday and first day of SECOND QUARTER!!!

In 1492, he sailed the ocean blue.  No, we're not going to spend time writing about ol' Chris C. today but I do want to take a stroll through history.  If you could go back in time and spend one day with a great figure of history who would it be and why?  Be sure to elaborate and talk about what they did to make them famous and why you would want to spend the day with them.

Oh, Fall...

Did you notice that crisp fall air this morning?  I love it!!  This is my favorite time of the year.  My house spells like pumpkin and hazelnut, mums and pumpkins are overflowing on my front porch, and football is on the TV every Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  What are your favorite things about this season?  Be sure to explain why (or why not) you love this time of the year.

Team Work

There are both good things and bad things about playing on a team, such as the school soccer team or the school volleyball team. Write 5-7 sentences in which you explain both what is good and what is bad about playing on a school team. Be sure to explain each point fully and add some of your personal experiences.  

Grandparents Day

Yesterday was National Grandparents Day.  Many schools across the nation are celebrating by inviting grandparents to school and connecting with older members of their communities.  I'm going to give you a few different options for this post.  Choose one (or more) of the writing prompts and share your thoughts.

• If you could go back to your great-grandparents childhood, would you?  Why or why not?
• What advice has a grandparent shared with you that really stuck with you?  Has this helped shaped the person you've become or strive to be?
• What do you wish your grandparents knew about teenagers today?  How could you ease this relationship/help you connect better?

Literacy

Today is International Literacy Day.  "Whether it’s reading or writing, literacy is an outlet to an untouchable world – your imagination. Not only is literacy a basic human right, it is a fundamental building block for learning as well as a personal empowerment tool. It is the catalyst for social and global progress."--internationalliteracyday.org.  

If you can read this then you already have an amazing tool that can take you wherever you want to go!  Imagine a world in which you could not read?  What would life be like?  How would you communicate?  This is something we take for granted daily and many people don't realize just how blessed they truly are to be able to read.  

How has literacy (reading or writing) impacted your life?  Have you had a book leave a lasting impression on you?  Have you written a paper/poem/letter/text that you were proud of?  Reflect in 5-7 sentences.  

Best class ever!

I hope you're happy with your class schedule because the window for changing classes has officially closed!  That being said, I'm so excited to have all of you as students this year!  I feel like this is my best group of students EVER so be ready to do big things.
